CHANGE THROUGH ______________ →
This is a thing that I’ve been co-organizing for a while. It’s fun. We get cool people to come and talk for five minutes about how their area of expertise is important to social change. And then we get dialogue-y on it. And then we go home, and we do things to make what we talked about come true in our homes and neighbourhoods.
This week we’re talking about design. COOL

Guide to Being Don Draper Manual →
In my family, we do a gift draw for Christmas presents. This year I drew my brother-in-law, and I made him this Guide to Being Don Draper Manual. I put it in a box with the materials listed in the table of contents.
Here you go, Internet. Print it double-sided and fold it in half, then staple or sew up the fold so it makes a little book. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Big City Talk
Me: I find in smaller cities/towns people are like, aggressively kind. It's a bit freaky. I hate asking for directions in small towns because they'll practically follow you down the street to make sure you're not lost, which is really nice of them but also, yikes.
Tim: Also kind of unnecessary, right? Like, there's only one gas station in town to turn left at.
Me: Yeah, exactly!
Tim: The weirdness of that kind of reminds me of Infinite Jest a little...which is a little like saying it reminds me of the Bible, in that, okay, maybe, but which part exactly?

The Age of Adz - Sufjan Stevens →
We saw Sufjan Stevens at the Orpheum last week and he played all the songs off his newest album (and some from the All Delighted People EP) and it was just really really great.
So you should listen to it.

Andrew Bird, Souverian: “This isn’t bad…I didn’t say it’s good, it’s not bad, that’s all.”
CocoRosie, West Side: “What is all that crunching noise? She has a pretty voice, why is she messing it up with the crunching noise?…Hmph. Art is no excuse to turn something pretty into something ugly.”

Is this happening at every screening?
We went to a nearly sold-out theatre to see Scott Pilgrim vs. the World on Sunday. The trailer for Devil: the words “from the mind of M. Night Shyamalan” came up, and everyone - everyone - first groaned, and then laughed so hard that people were still coughing and giggling well into the next trailer.
I hear from the internet that this is not an isolated incident.

Do you know this band? One of their drummers is also the drummer in my bands, London Spy and Friends From School and the one we’ve been working on that doesn’t have a name.
Topless is an awesome band. You should listen to their songs, all of them are fun. I know their website is ridiculous, but it advocates less Nickelback for children and I think we can all get behind that.

Aw maaaaan. It makes me so sad when willfully ignorant people insist on broadcasting their opinion on an issue they know absolutely nothing about, and then muzzle the one guy who might be able to help them.
And it makes me even more sad when loud old people don’t understand the Internet. But I’m grateful the anchor didn’t “take it to the iPad” or “check the...

Do you guys read this webcomic? The art is amazing, and it’s a pretty gripping plot to boot. I always get a little flutter in my chest when I see updates for this in my RSS feed.
This is a problem.
Every time I eat an open-faced-peanut-butter-and-honey sandwich, the honey slides off the bread and drips and gets everywhere. I have never seen anyone else have this much trouble eating an open-faced-peanut-butter-and-honey sandwich. I think I am sandwich-eating challenged.

Pretty interesting interview with the guy who plays Pete Campbell on Mad Men. My favourite part is where he argues with a guy about a rock:
